This team of incredible humans has been hand-selected by the Tessera Dance Theater Faculty. They are our most trusted friends and colleagues, who live across the United States. We feel that we learn by example and that these professionals are the best possible examples for our students. They are a diverse and talented group, who are eager to pour into younger generations, as well as offer guidance and insight into the life of an artist. Each mentor is responsible for a small portion of our student body, and acts as a resource, confidant, and advisor.

  • Ashley Green

    New York, NY

    Ashley Green was born and raised in Charleston, SC where she began dancing at a very young age. She trained in a variety of styles including ballet, modern, jazz, tap, and hip hop. Ashley followed her passion for dance at Point Park University in Pittsburgh, PA, where she performed works by Peter Chu, Aszure Barton, Kyle Abraham, and Garfield Lemonius, to name a few. In April 2020, Ashley graduated from Point Park University earning her BFA in Dance with a concentration in Modern dance. She was a dancer with Whim W’Him Seattle Contemporary Dance and has joined the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Ms. Green was most recently awarded a Princess Grace Award in dance and choreography.

  • Brandon O' Neal

    Los Angeles, CA

    @iambrandononeal is a native of Knoxville, TN, trained and mentored by Emmy Award-winner Debbie Allen. CREDITS - Broadway: The Lion King and Wicked. Film: Netflix’s Christmas on the Square starring Dolly Parton, Jenifer Lewis, and Christine Baranski (upcoming), La La Land, Ted 2 and Fame (2009) TV: 2020 Grammy Awards with Misty Copeland, Grey’s Anatomy (Season 14), Scandal (Season 7), Lip Sync Battle (Season 2&3), Broad City, Dancing with the Stars, The Late Late Show with James Corden Commercials: Ford (Super Bowl), Amazon Prime, Subway, Gap and AT&T. Brandon has also had the good fortune to work with Misty Copeland, Will Smith, Paula Abdul, Dolly Parton, Stevie Wonder, Ne-Yo, Bad Bunny, John Legend, Janelle Monaé, Kacey Musgraves, Miley Cyrus, Billy Porter, Rob Ashford, and most recently Bad Bunny,

  • Joe Styles

    Orlando, FL

    Joseph Smith known as Joe Styles is from Knoxville, TN. At the age of 18, he moved to Orlando, FL. There he taught hip-hop at Edge studio and worked at Disney World as a performer. It was tough at times to be in a city where he knew only a few people but with God as the center of his heart, he began pushing harder and training in all styles towards his audition for So You Think You Can Dance, where he made top 30 and earned his name. Joe just wrapped up taping TRU TV’s new show FAKE OFF performing with his new group THE BODY POETS making the top 3 of the show. He is also the founder of JAMHEADZZZ.

  • Shamicka Jones

    Los Angeles, CA

    Shamicka Jones was born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee. Post graduating from Bearden High School she, received her BFA from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. In her senior year at UT, she earned an invitation to train at the famous Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in New York City. She credits the gift of being able to seize that opportunity, to her Knoxville community after they showed up- local studios, former teachers, high school dance teams, and professional performers gave of their supplies, talents, time, and finances to ensure she had more than enough to be able to afford her elite training at the prestigious school. Since the completion of her time at Ailey, she toured the world for over 10 years as one of the spokesmodels/dancers for the International Broadway tour of Chicago the Musical. She also has performed on various stages around Los Angeles, where she currently resides, such as The Pasadena Playhouse, The Gary Marshall Theater, and the historical Hollywood Bowl. Though dance is her first love, after God, she has enjoyed developing her other talents and skills to land roles in numerous t.v. and film projects such as Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Jane the Virgin, General Hospital, and various commercials.

  • Eliana Hayward

    London, United Kingdom

    Eliana Hayward was born in Detroit, MI, and was raised in Knoxville, TN, where she began to dance and create from a young age. She trained in all styles, including ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, contemporary and hip hop. During this time she was mentored by Francisco Gella and was a founding trainee of Zeitgeist Dance Theater, a company founded by Gella and Yusha-Marie Sorzano. Additionally, she was a Complexions Contemporary Ballet Trainee under Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson. During high school, Eliana moved to Boise, ID, and was Ballet Idaho’s first trainee. Here, she danced under the guidance of Garrett Anderson and Peter Anastos, performing both ballet and contemporary works. Eliana has performed works at the Joyce Theater in NYC as part of the Complexions 25th Anniversary Gala, as a part of the New Century Dance Project in Salt Lake City, UT, at the Morrison Center in the roles of Clara and Flowers in The New Nutcracker as part of Ballet Idaho, and via the web as part of Zeitgeist Dance Theater. Additionally, she creates and stages work, most notably a piece titled Stages which was chosen for consideration as part of the New Century Dance Project’s juried work. Eliana is currently living, studying, and dancing at Rambert School in London, United Kingdom, where she is pursuing her BFA in Ballet and Contemporary Dance with a study in Choreography.

  • Chris McCartin

    Internationally Touring

    Born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, Chris McCartin is a professional dancer trained in a wide range of styles. Chris began taking hip hop at the age of 6 and then training in ballet, tap, jazz, and contemporary, among others at the age of 9. When he was 13 Chris was signed by Clear Talent Group one of Los Angeles’ top agencies and has been working professionally while simultaneously training with the Industry’s greatest choreographers since then. Some of his credits include appearing in Just Dance Disney Party 2, “The Greatest” music video with Sia, on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, and most recently on the season finale episode of Nickelodeon’s Drama Club choreographed by Emmy Award winner Kat Burns. You can currently find Chris traveling the globe performing for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, where he has been a lead dancer on their ships over the last few years. Although from humble beginnings, Chris believes and is a testament to the fact that hard work and passion can help make any dream a reality.

  • Malaika Guthrie

    Knoxville, TN

    Ms. Malaika has been teaching for Knox County Schools for 27 years, with 25 of those being at Austin-East. During her time at A-E, she taught a variety of dance genres as a dance teacher, and she also helped the boys’ soccer team go on to win their state champion title last year. “You never know how people feel about you until they tell you. Until they show you. Kids have come into my life for 27 years. They come and they leave, come and they leave, and to have this many come back to come back. Like, I don’t even have the words. It is such an incredible feeling,”.

  • Daniel Gaymon

    New York, NY

    Daniel began dancing at the age of 9 at the Columbia City Jazz Dance School & Company. Since beginning his professional career, he has gone from performing company work such as Rasta Thomas’ “Bad Boys of Dance” and the Travis Wall led company “Shaping Sound” to performing on stage in musical theatre shows such as the Broadway revival of “Cats”, the national tour of “Hamilton” and back to Broadway in Disney’s “The Lion King.” His credits also include performing in Carrie Underwood’s “Something In the Water,” Sara Bareilles’s “Fire,” and the film “La La Land.”

  • Jordan Samuels

    Atlanta, GA

    Started dancing at the age of three in Columbia, South Carolina in Tap, Jazz, and Ballet. After placing as a finalist in The Youth America Grand Prix ballet competition in NYC, Jordan went on to study at the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School at American Ballet Theatre. He was in the top 10 original ten finalists of ‘Billy Elliot the Musical’ and earned him a role in ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’ on Broadway at the age of eleven. In 2013 he toured Europe with Rasta Thomas'- ‘Bad Boys of Dance'. He most recently toured with ‘Disney’s Newsies’ in the role of ‘Specs’ and also 'Disney's The Lion King’ as an understudy for the role of 'Ed'.
